Catering Assistant - Housekeeper
Âé¶¹AV has an opening for a Catering Assistant - Housekeeper.
Position Objective: Ensure catering events are set up in a timely and efficient manner following catering guidelines and maintaining catering buffet standards. Responsible for cleaning care of Wyndham in accordance with prescribed methods, procedures, and in keeping with known safety regulations. Provide excellent customer service and professionalism within the college community.
Responsibilities:
- Pack equipment, deliver, set up, break down, and clean up catering events independently, ensuring events are set up on time according to department standards.
- Organize and maintain the cleanliness of the stock areas, including but not limited to linens, soda, and party pack room.
- Order needed catering supplies & equipment.
- Work independently under limited direction of management. Handle difficult situations with diplomacy and tact. Dress appropriately as directed by manager.
- Maintain proper food temperatures of both hot and cold foods as required by the local health and sanitation authority (currently Montgomery County). Adhere to standards outlined by sanitation program (ServSafe), state, local and federal guidelines.
- Communicate with catering clients, guests of College, and College Staff in a professional manner. Assist manager as needed.
- Maintain and provide detailed post-event documentation and records, to include forwarding event notes, details, changes and additional charges to the administrative office for billing in a timely manner.
- Clean various areas in Wyndham.
- Clean common areas (living room, foyers, front entrance way)
- Clean and reset guest rooms daily.
- Replenish guest rooms supplies (soap, shampoo, toilet paper), stock refrigerator and coffee supplies.
- dust and polish furniture
- dust/wipe down windowsills and woodwork
- dry mop/wet mop floors and/or vacuum carpets
- dust/wipe down lamps, chrome ashtrays, and mirrors
- Laundry room/Utility room
- wipe down washing machines and dryers
- sweep and wet mop floor
- wash sink basin and counter area
- dust window sills
- Bathrooms
- wash face bowls, pipe work beneath sinks, and mirrors
- wash toilet bowl, stall walls and doors
- wash (scrub) bathtubs, shower stalls, and tile work
- clean/replace shower curtain or clean shower stall door
- sweep and wet mop floor
- empty trash, replenish paper supplies, wipe down vents and polish brass/chrome fixture
- Miscellaneous
- dust woodwork, banister, baseboards, door frames as needed
- wash window (interiors)
- clean glass inserts in doors
- sweep stairs
- vacuum hallways
Scope and Complexity:
- Frequent physical effort involving lifting of heavy weights, stooping, reaching, standing and bending for extended periods of time.
- Routine work instructions are given on a daily basis by a manager. Must be able to prioritize and organize workload as directed by manager.
- Be able to guide or direct the work of students and catering staff needed to assist in preparation and production of catering events
- As Âé¶¹AV is a residential college, Wyndham Catering is an essential service. Employees may be assigned to various shifts and units as needed.
- Must be flexible in work schedule and work hours. Schedule will change with limited notice. Wyndham Catering is open for services year round.
- Position requires being available for a flexible schedule based on catering functions and activity. Catering services are available 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
- Must be able to execute events according to department standards in the most cost effective manner possible.
Skills, Abilities, Experience and Education:
- Ability to understand oral and/or written instructions
- Sufficient manual dexterity to perform manual tasks
- Effective communication and active listening skills
- Ability to perform tasks that may involve lifting items weighing 50+ lbs with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Ability to be mobile between work stations and numerous campus buildings
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures
- Ability to climb stairs while carrying heavy items
- Ability to bend over and reach up and down
- Thorough knowledge of safety precautions and regulations regarding the use, care and cleaning of dining service machines and equipment.
- Must possess valid driver’s license and pass College’s van test.
- Demonstrate the ability to lead and supervise other workers.
- ServSafe Certification (Ability to obtain within first six months of employment).
